11/16/2016 Facing the message of hate, racism, and division from two men near Dale Hall (more here) this girl chose to display a quote by Martin Luther King about LOVE.
The OU community unifies as one regardless of race, religion, or background to pray together for the U.S. and peace in the world after hours of trying to get two radical and racist men off the campus.
Darius A. Katono (right) is a Universal World College Student from Kampala, Uganda. He is majoring in Chemical Engineering. After his freshman year at Couch center apartment he moved to Traditions East Apartment where he met Ramiro Brigueda (left). Ramiro is also a Chemical Engineering major, originally from Córdoba, Argentine. They did not know each other very well. They first met in their Calculus class during their freshman year. After being randomly put together as roommates, they became friends. They understand and accept each other’s flaws and qualities. Regardless of origin, skin color, and differences in languages, they have lived together peacefully for the last three years. Their diversity is what makes them strong, and they always learn from one another. Now they are seniors.
- Isn’t this what we all want for our campus?
- Isn’t this what America should lean on?
The University of Oklahoma is a beautiful and very diverse campus. Let’s not see our diversity as issues for our community but a pillar to build a strong and unified community. As Ramiro and Darius succeed in their major using their diversity, let’s all follow their example and make our campus and (even more) our country an open and peaceful place for our generation and the generations to come.
